Busy Hop Scotch!

Hello! Another big update here! Projects all over the place, haha there will be a back log of catching up at some point, but more importantly let's see what I've been up to!!

Firstly I've been working on storyboards for my own little animations alongside Wonky Films (http://www.wonkyfilms.com/) which followed on from my conjoined twins series, this is all still early days and I don't want to jump the gun, so it's very much a stage by stage process and we'll see where it goes, due to this I don't want to spoil too much about the actual gags, so you'll have so suffice with these lil images I've given here, but hopefully (fingers crossed x100) there will be more development- so watch this space!!

So moving on from that, I have the pleasure to announce another Daze-ray exhibition, which will be at the lovely "Here and Now" gallery in Falmouth, June 2011! Obviously very early days and me and Daisy have alot to work out, but in the spirit of things here's a little illustration I've done as a teaser of what maybe to expect....... :O

I've started work on another project with long time collaborator Jack burston (who currently has a new blog going- http://jackburston.tumblr.com/ ) on what currently is an ambiguous music/art project, all you need to know so far is that it involves mussolini, a bail of hay and twins- here's an illustration to kick things going! (this will also somehow incorporate my return to lemon mountain ideas- in case anyone thought that had disappeared!)

I'm currently working on a big piece to submit to Adam Hayes interesting map project (http://make-maps.blogspot.com/ )- alas I'm not use to doing portraiture so it's taking a little longer than planned, here's an example of some of the faces I've done so far, it's planned to be a giant map of my musical influences!

Lastly for this post, here's a little something I whipped up for the Just Us collective who wanted something related to E-Spam, I've just finished a new piece, so this is probably not the one I'm going with, but thought it would be fun to share...because sharing is fun!!!

(Edit: I actually went with an edited version of the Spam-o-lop-o-gop as my final for the Just Us, so instead here is other idea, the E-spam-inator)

That's all for now, planned for the future is more Toastie-O and more Master Tompkins Marvellous Travelling Machines (I'm sure that name keeps changing!!) and as always feel free to contact me if you so wish- murraysomerville@hotmail.com

Master Tompkin's Travelling Machines

Another personal project I've started that I'm quite excited about- Mr Tompkin's Travelling Machines, a load of drawings of Mr Tompkin in all sorts of weird and bizarre vehicles! Here's the first, his odd bike/boat raft!

(I still don't understand why my previews keep pixelating, if someone could inform me I'd be deeply grateful, but as always if you click on the picture it'll link you to a high-res version!)

Edit: Thanks to a mr Ben Smith I no longer have pixelated previews! YES! check his work out btw because he's badass and may also be a future collaborator! Boom:

Still alive and still very much drawing

Has finishing uni stopped my artistic output? In a nutshell- no! Excluding the already blogged poster for the fringe performance by Bad Bread, I'm waist deep in other projects! For starters I'm currently featured on the creative boom birmingham site with my banner being used for the month:

http://www.creativeboom.co.uk/birmingham/

But should also be popping up in some other areas in the coming months, including cut click and the Sasquatch website- both of which are going through exciting times so I would look them both up! But enough of show boating, I'm also currently involved in storyboards with Wonky Films, don't want to reveal too much about this yet as it's all a little hush hush, but it's an excellent opportunity! There are many prospective projects on the horizon, don't worry a re-haul and reorganization of melon shrub will be coming including issue 2 and the search for contributors! Daze-Ray are currently discussing their next project together and potential opportunities to exhibit next year. But moving on I've started ground work on two new personal projects, The first will be a new short graphic novel story of a travelling group of castaways who ride a large unknown creature- more to come on this one! The second is a conceptual illustrative narrative called "Return To Lemon Mountain" which similar to my last piece of work, will be primarily single imaged based, but aims to be more elaborate! Below are two sketches on my beginnings of this!

Overall things are in motion, I'm still looking for more on my plate so if you are interested in getting in touch with me then you know how (If you don't I'm implying by email- murraysomerville@hotmail.com ! ) but yea there will be alot more blogging of images over these coming weeks I can asure you all!

Enjoy these images!

Online Portfolio is up!

Hey, so the progress of having an actual intimate and personal website may take some time, as I don't want to rush it, but to get myself more spread out on the web, I've uploaded an online version of my portfolio, so please have a look and get in touch if you so wish!

UPDATE!

Ok ok, so it's been far too long since I've updated my blog! So here we are with some explosive information! To begin with, I've finished my degree, so hurrah and also bring on the real artistic world- but before we get ahead of ourselves, here's what I've been up to!

First off the Jewellery Quarter Mural, the first completed Daze-Ray illustration! Was a great success, the window looked awesome, so kudos to both me and daisy (http://www.whitewolfillustrations.com/) for pulling it off!

Following this was the Daze-Ray exhibition! In the same location of the mural, both myself and Daisy got to show our individual works, which again was a success, alot of good viral coverage and overall a rewarding experience! I got to finish and showcase my "The World that Never Got Lonely" project, here are some images below of my work up!

But for a better idea of what the images actually looked like, here a few below, the complete set can be found at my flickr and facebook, and all are available as unframed prints!

So yea it's been busy! Most importantly is that at the moment I'm currently open to all new commissions and projects! But I will be embarking on Toastie-O 2 and the second issue of Melon Shrub as personal projects!
